Biometric Screenings
Biometric screening appointments will be available on Monday and Tuesday.  You can register for your 20-minute screening when you register for the conference.

What is a Biometric Screening?
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), a biometric screening is defined as the measurement of physical characteristics such as height, weight, body mass index, blood pressure, blood cholesterol, blood glucose, that can be taken at the worksite and used as part of a workplace health assessment to benchmark and evaluate changes in employee health status over time.

Why Participate in the Screenings?   Health is the new wealth.
It’s important for you to know some basic information about your health so that you can stay on top of any health risks that you may have. Getting this screening is an easy, efficient way to do that. Every person who participates in the biometric screening will received a $50 gift card.
Important: CooperVision is charged for no shows. If you sign up and do not complete your screening, the company will be charged. Sign up, complete the screening and be in control of your health!

BMI - Body Mass Index
Usually, the first thing that is done is your body measurements. Assessing your height, weight, and body mass index can help a health professional understand if you are overweight or not. It’s important to know how overweight you are so that goals can be implemented and the calorie intake needed to reach those goals can be assessed

Blood Pressure
High blood pressure or hypertension is linked to heart disease and stroke, which makes measuring your blood pressure a very important factor in the biometric screening process.

Cholesterol Levels
Nurses draw blood by pricking your finger with a needle to test your cholesterol levels. You will be given metrics on your total cholesterol levels. Having high cholesterol can lead to a lot of different health problems.

Glucose Levels
It’s good to be aware of your glucose levels. Glucose is a vital part of your body’s circulatory system. If one notices that they are lethargic, irritable, have impaired mental functionality, or they pass out, it could be a sign of low blood glucose. Transversely, having high blood glucose can be just as dangerous. High blood glucose leads to diseases like diabetes.

Confidential
All tests are performed confidentially by Quest Nurses contracted through CIGNA. Results are immediate and you will receive counseling on your results. We encourage you to follow up with your doctor if you have any questions.

Voluntary
The Biometric Screenings offered at the ASC are voluntary, but please keep in mind the value of these health screenings and be sure to visit your Primary Care Doctor for your FREE Preventive Care Visits at least once a year.

Do I have to fast prior to my screening appointment?
It is recommended that you fast for the most accurate results, but it is not required.

How is the Body Mass Index (BMI) calculated?
